In recent times, allegations of persecution of minorities in Bangladesh have triggered anger among sections of the Indian public. Against this backdrop, some political leaders have demanded that Bangladeshi cricketers should not be allowed to play in the IPL. As a result, KKR and its owner Shah Rukh Khan have been directly dragged into the controversy.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam, speaking to news agency ANI, effectively issued a “warning” to Shah Rukh Khan. He stated that in the current situation, anyone associated with Bangladeshi citizens could become a target of public anger. He said,
“When the entire country is angry over the Bangladesh issue, if Shah Rukh Khan has a Bangladeshi player in his team, he could become a major target. We request, for his own good and in the interest of India, that the player be dropped from the team.”

Taking an even tougher stance, Shiv Sena spokesperson Anand Dubey called for a complete ban. Speaking to ANI, he said,
“Pakistani and Bangladeshi players should not be allowed to play in the IPL on Indian soil. If Mustafizur is not dropped from KKR despite so much controversy, it will prove that Shah Rukh Khan does not understand the importance of public sentiment in the country.”

However, a section of the cricketing community believes that the IPL is a sporting competition where player selection should be based on performance and skill, not political tensions. Mustafizur Rahman is well known in international cricket for his deceptive cutters and effectiveness in death overs, which is precisely why KKR invested such a large amount in him, according to cricket analysts.

As of now, neither KKR management nor Shah Rukh Khan has issued any official response. The question remains—will cricket be able to withstand political pressure, or will off-field controversies decide Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL future?

This time, though, the story looks a bit different. Right before the auction, Mustafizur has been showcasing glimpses of his old magic in the ILT20, held in Saudi Arabia. Playing for the Delhi Capitals’ franchise team, he has taken four wickets in two matches and has become the centre of discussion for his exceptional dot-ball bowling.

In the opening match against the Gulf Giants, Mustafizur announced his return to rhythm — delivering four overs for just 26 runs and picking up two wickets. The highlight: 13 dot balls. In the next match, against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, his cutters and variations looked even sharper. He took two wickets again, conceding 22 runs in three overs, along with 11 dot balls.

In total, across 42 balls bowled in two matches, 24 deliveries resulted in no runs — an outstanding statistic for any bowler in T20 cricket.

Beyond dot balls, another major strength of Mustafizur is his ability to bowl effectively in both the powerplay and death overs. His cutters, deceptive slower balls, and wicket-targeting lines all seem to have returned to their best. As a result, many believe several IPL franchises will be keeping a close eye on him.

However, one question still remains: Will he be allowed to play the full IPL season? Historically, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has scheduled international series during almost every IPL season. Additionally, players often receive NOCs only for limited periods. Because of this, franchises hesitate to invest in Bangladeshi players. If a similar situation arises this year, Mustafizur and Shakib could once again find themselves at a disadvantage.

In a recent emotional interview, Jahanara broke down in tears as she revealed that she had repeatedly filed written complaints to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), but no effective action was taken. According to her, there was temporary behavioral change following her complaints, but soon the same inappropriate conduct resumed.

Jahanara alleged that Manjurul Islam made uncomfortable comments and physical advances toward her. She said, “He (Manjurul) once put his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘How many days of your period are left? Let me know when it’s over—I need to take care of my side too.’ After matches, he would hug me inappropriately during handshakes.”

She further claimed that she reported these incidents to Nadel Sir, then head of the women’s cricket wing, as well as to several other officials, but no permanent solution was reached.

“I reported it countless times over one and a half years. Things would improve for a couple of days, then go back to the same behavior,” she said.

Earlier, in an interview with Kaler Kantho, Jahanara had also spoken out against the “syndicate culture” within the women’s team. She alleged that former selector Manjurul Islam, late women’s division in-charge Touhidur Rahman, and current captain Nigar Sultana Joty had formed a powerful group that intimidated other players.

Initially, the BCB dismissed the claims as “baseless.” However, it has now changed its stance. In a late-night press release on Thursday, the board announced the formation of an investigation committee, which has been instructed to submit a report within 15 days.
Meanwhile, Jahanara has also expressed her frustration with captain Nigar Sultana Joty, accusing her of mistreating junior players—forcing them to carry bags and massage her head. Nigar, however, has denied all allegations, saying, “Jahanara is spreading false claims for personal reasons.”

The entire sports community in Bangladesh is now in turmoil over these successive revelations. After years of contributing to the nation’s cricketing success, Jahanara’s bold disclosure has drawn widespread attention—all eyes are now on the outcome of the BCB’s investigation.
