Sports Desk: Adamas Howrah Warriors emerged as champions of the women’s competition in the third edition of the Bengal T20 League after defeating Murshidabad Queens…

Sports Desk: Adamas Howrah Warriors emerged as champions of the women’s competition in the third edition of the Bengal T20 League after defeating Murshidabad Queens by four wickets in a thrilling final at Eden Gardens on Sunday. After producing consistent performances throughout the tournament, Howrah once again showcased their dominance on the biggest stage to lift the coveted trophy.

বাংলায় পড়ুন: মেয়েদের বেঙ্গল টি-২০ লিগে চ্যাম্পিয়ন অ্যাডামাস হাওড়া ওয়ারিয়র্স

Winning the toss, Murshidabad Queens opted to bat first but struggled against a disciplined bowling attack from Howrah Warriors. Regular wickets at crucial intervals prevented them from building momentum, and the batting line-up failed to post a challenging total.

Kashish Agarwal was the top scorer for Murshidabad with 21 runs, while Susmita Pal contributed a valuable 19. However, none of the other batters managed to make a significant impact as the team finished on 95/9 in 20 overs.

Howrah’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings. Chandrima Ghoshal and Disha Chandak claimed two wickets each, while Remondina Khatun, Shreyasi Aich, and Shrilekha Roy chipped in with a wicket apiece. Their collective effort ensured Murshidabad were restricted to a below-par total.

Chasing a modest target of 96, Howrah Warriors suffered a few early setbacks as Murshidabad’s bowlers fought hard to keep their team in the contest. However, the experienced middle order held its nerve and guided the side towards victory.

Priyanka Prasad played a crucial innings of 29 runs, laying the foundation for the chase. She received excellent support from Sujata Dey, who scored 27 runs. Their partnership steadied the innings and gradually shifted the momentum in Howrah’s favour.

For Murshidabad Queens, Pratibha Rana and captain Tanushree Sarkar picked up a wicket each, but defending a small total proved too difficult.

Howrah Warriors eventually reached the target in 18.5 overs, sealing a memorable four-wicket victory and securing the championship title.

Shrilekha Roy was named the Player of the Match for her impressive all-round contribution in the final. Speaking after the victory, she expressed her delight at being part of the team’s success and credited the achievement to a collective effort from the entire squad.

“This victory belongs to the whole team. Every player, along with the coaching staff, played an important role in our success. We worked hard throughout the tournament, and it feels special to finish as champions,” she said.

With this triumph, Adamas Howrah Warriors established themselves as the best team in the women’s competition of the Bengal T20 League 2026. Their consistency, teamwork and all-round performances throughout the tournament were rewarded with the championship trophy, marking a memorable chapter in the club’s history.

New Delhi: South Africa kept their Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final hopes alive with a crucial six-wicket victory over India in a Group A encounter…

New Delhi: South Africa kept their Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final hopes alive with a crucial six-wicket victory over India in a Group A encounter on Sunday. Veteran all-rounder Marizanne Kapp produced a match-winning performance with both bat and ball, helping the Proteas secure one of their most important wins of the tournament.

Also Read Bengali | ম্যারিজান কাপের ঝড়ে ভারতের প্রথম হার, সেমিফাইনালের দৌড়ে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা

Kapp first impressed with the ball, returning figures of 2/27, before smashing an unbeaten 81 off just 45 deliveries to guide South Africa to victory. Her explosive knock, which included seven fours and four sixes, powered the Proteas to 161/4 in 19.1 overs while chasing a target of 159.

The defeat handed India their first loss of the tournament and left their semi-final qualification hopes hanging in the balance ahead of a crucial clash against Australia.

Kapp and Brits rescue South Africa

South Africa’s chase got off to a cautious start, with the team managing only 25 runs in the opening five overs. India appeared to be firmly in control when spinner Shree Charani struck twice in a maiden over, removing captain Laura Wolvaardt and Annerie Dercksen to leave the Proteas under pressure.

However, Kapp had other plans.

Joining forces with Tazmin Brits, the experienced all-rounder rebuilt the innings brilliantly. The duo stitched together a vital 97-run partnership for the third wicket, combining sensible strike rotation with aggressive strokeplay to keep South Africa on course.

India’s woes were compounded by costly fielding errors. Substitute fielder Radha Yadav dropped Kapp twice, and the South African star made the most of those reprieves. She remained unbeaten until the end, steering her side across the finish line with five balls to spare.

India fail to build on strong start

Earlier, India struggled to capitalise after being asked to bat first.

The innings began promisingly, but a middle-order collapse derailed their progress. From a comfortable 54 without loss, India slipped to 83/4, losing momentum at a crucial stage of the innings.

Deepti Sharma fought back with a valuable 29 off 21 balls, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur, playing her landmark 200th T20 International, contributed 24 runs. Their 33-run partnership helped stabilise the innings, but India were unable to accelerate significantly in the closing overs.

Eventually, the Women in Blue posted 158/7, a total that looked competitive on a challenging surface but ultimately proved insufficient against Kapp’s brilliance.

Semi-final race heats up

The victory significantly boosts South Africa’s chances of reaching the knockout stage, while India now face increased pressure heading into their remaining group fixtures.

With the tournament entering its decisive phase, Kapp’s outstanding all-round display could prove to be one of the defining performances of the Women’s T20 World Cup campaign.

Sports Desk: At just 15 years of age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to rewrite records and capture the imagination of cricket fans. The teenage sensation from Bihar has now etched his name into the history books by registering the fastest half-century in List A cricket, breaking a world record that had stood unchallenged for nearly two decades.

The remarkable feat came during the final of the tri-nation series in Sri Lanka, where India A faced Sri Lanka A. Suryavanshi produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting, smashing 94 runs off just 29 balls. Although he fell agonisingly short of a century by six runs, his explosive knock left spectators and experts stunned.

From the very first ball, the youngster adopted an ultra-aggressive approach. Refusing to let the opposition bowlers settle, he launched a relentless assault that quickly shifted the momentum in India’s favour. Boundaries flowed effortlessly from his bat as he dismantled the Sri Lankan attack with fearless strokeplay.

The highlight of the innings was his record-breaking fifty. Suryavanshi reached the milestone in a staggering 11 balls, setting a new world record for the fastest half-century in List A cricket.

The previous record belonged to Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne, who had scored a fifty in 12 balls during the 2005-06 season. That landmark remained untouched for almost 20 years before the Indian teenager shattered it in spectacular fashion.

His route to the record was nothing short of extraordinary. In his first 11 deliveries, Suryavanshi scored 50 runs with only one dot ball. The remaining ten deliveries produced five fours and five sixes, showcasing a level of dominance rarely witnessed in professional cricket.

His scoring sequence during the record-breaking blitz read:

4, 4, 4, 6, 6, 0, 6, 4, 4, 6, 6

The historic moment arrived when he launched left-arm spinner Dulaj Samuditha over the boundary ropes for a six to complete his fifty and claim the world record.

As a result, another Sri Lankan batter, Naranggoda Liyanarachchi Thisara Perera, who had scored a 13-ball fifty during the 2020-21 season, has now slipped to third place on the all-time list. The updated standings now see Suryavanshi at the top, followed by Weeraratne and Perera.

The young batter had already been making headlines in recent weeks, but this innings served as a powerful reminder of his extraordinary talent. Despite being only 15 years old, Suryavanshi displayed remarkable confidence, game awareness and an ability to dominate experienced bowlers under pressure.

His sensational 94-run knock at Dambulla was more than just a match-winning effort. It was a historic innings that announced the arrival of one of Indian cricket’s brightest young stars. If his current trajectory continues, Vaibhav Suryavanshi could well become one of the defining cricketers of the next generation.

For now, his 11-ball half-century stands as a record that the cricketing world will be talking about for years to come.

Sports Desk: Bangladesh produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Pakistan by 20 runs in a crucial Group A encounter of the ICC Women’s T20 World…

Sports Desk: Bangladesh produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Pakistan by 20 runs in a crucial Group A encounter of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Saturday, dealing a major blow to Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

After appearing firmly in control of the chase, Pakistan suffered a dramatic batting collapse, allowing Bangladesh to snatch victory from an unlikely position and keep their own qualification hopes alive.

Also Read Bengali : পাকিস্তানের বিশ্বকাপ স্বপ্নে বড় ধাক্কা, দুরন্ত প্রত্যাবর্তনে জয় ছিনিয়ে নিল বাংলাদেশ

Joty and Shorna Lead Bangladesh Recovery

Batting first, Bangladesh found themselves in deep trouble early on after Pakistan captain Fatima Sana struck twice in the opening over. The Tigers slumped to 13 for 3, losing Dilara Akter, Sharmin Akhter and Juairiya Ferdous within the first few overs.

With the innings under pressure, skipper Nigar Sultana Joty led from the front with a composed 36 off 38 balls. She received valuable support from Sobhana Mostary, who contributed 22 runs as the pair steadied the innings.

The momentum shifted dramatically in the closing stages thanks to Shorna Akter, who blasted an unbeaten 39 from just 22 deliveries. Her aggressive strokeplay lifted Bangladesh to a competitive total of 123 for 6 after 20 overs.

Pakistan Throw Away Winning Position

In reply, Pakistan made a confident start to the chase. Gull Feroza scored 23 while Muneeba Ali added 25, helping their side reach 69 for 2 after 11 overs.

With eight wickets in hand and the required run rate well under control, Pakistan looked on course for victory. However, Bangladesh’s bowlers engineered a stunning turnaround.

The middle order crumbled under pressure as Pakistan lost six wickets for just 15 runs, completely derailing the chase. Bangladesh spinners Nahida Akter and Sanjida Akter Meghla starred with three wickets each, applying relentless pressure and triggering the collapse.

Despite late resistance from Nashra Sandhu and Tasmia Rubab, Pakistan never recovered and eventually finished on 100 for 8, falling 20 runs short of the target.

Pakistan’s Qualification Hopes Hanging by a Thread

The defeat leaves Pakistan in serious danger of an early exit from the tournament. Their qualification hopes now depend heavily on results elsewhere in the group.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, remain alive in the race for a semifinal spot after producing one of the most impressive fightbacks of the competition so far.

Adding to Pakistan’s worries, an Indian victory over South Africa would officially eliminate them from the Women’s T20 World Cup and bring their campaign to an end.

Sports Desk: Shrachi Rarh Tigers stormed into the final of the Bengal T20 League after producing a dominant all-round performance against Novas Royals Purulia in the first semifinal at Eden Gardens on Friday. Led by Shahbaz Ahmed, the Tigers secured a convincing seven-wicket victory to book their place in the title clash.

Also Read Bengali | রোহিতের আগুনে বোলিং, সুমন্তর ব্যাটে ভর করে ফাইনালে রাঢ় টাইগার্স

After winning the toss, Rarh skipper Shahbaz Ahmed elected to field first, a decision that paid immediate dividends. The Tigers’ disciplined bowling attack kept the Purulia batters under constant pressure, striking at regular intervals and never allowing them to build momentum.

Purulia’s innings revolved around a fighting knock from Lokesh, who scored 48 runs off 28 deliveries and provided the only significant resistance. Apart from him, none of the batters managed to convert their starts into meaningful contributions as wickets continued to tumble.

The star with the ball was Rohit Kumar, whose fiery spell dismantled the opposition batting line-up. He picked up four crucial wickets, while Shahbaz Ahmed and Sukhmeet Singh chipped in with two wickets each. As a result, Novas Royals Purulia were bundled out for just 107 runs in 18.2 overs.

Chasing a modest target of 108, Rarh Tigers approached the task with confidence and composure. The batters avoided unnecessary risks and steadily took control of the contest.

Sumanta Gupta played the anchor’s role brilliantly, remaining unbeaten on 47 from just 31 balls. His well-paced innings featured several elegant strokes and ensured there were no late hiccups in the chase. Captain Shahbaz Ahmed also contributed with a valuable 31 off 20 deliveries, putting the result beyond doubt.

Although Purulia’s bowlers managed to claim three wickets, they never looked capable of defending the total. Pritam Chakraborty, Lokesh and Rohit picked up a wicket each, but the target proved far too small.

Rarh Tigers eventually reached the target in just 12.1 overs, losing only three wickets and sealing victory with 47 balls to spare. The emphatic win highlighted the team’s balance and depth across all departments, making them strong contenders for the championship.

Rohit Kumar Named Player of the Match

After receiving the Player of the Match award, Rohit Kumar credited the entire team for the victory.

“I am extremely happy to receive this award, but this is not just my achievement. It is the result of a collective team effort. Before the match, our plan was to build pressure from the start and force the batters into making mistakes. Fortunately, the strategy worked perfectly.”

“The wicket offered some assistance, so I focused on bowling in the right areas and was lucky enough to pick up important wickets. Our fielders were outstanding as well. They grabbed some difficult chances, which helped us stay on top throughout the game.”

“The batters then finished the job brilliantly. Sumanta Gupta and Shahbaz bhai made the chase look easy with their excellent innings. Now our focus shifts to the final. We want to carry the same confidence and intensity into that match. Hopefully, we can make our supporters proud and finish the season by lifting the trophy.”

With momentum firmly on their side, Shrachi Rarh Tigers will now turn their attention to the final, where they will be aiming to cap off an impressive campaign with the Bengal T20 League title.

Sports Desk: Indian pace spearhead Mohammed Shami created history in the third edition of the Bengal T20 League by registering the tournament’s first-ever hat-trick and guiding Servotech Siliguri Strikers to a dominant 24-run victory over Shrachi Rarh Tigers at Eden Gardens on Saturday.

Read Bengali: বেঙ্গল টি-২০ লিগে ইতিহাস শামির, হ্যাটট্রিকে দুরন্ত জয় শিলিগুড়ির

After winning the toss, Shrachi Rarh Tigers opted to field first, hoping to take advantage of the conditions. However, Siliguri Strikers came out with an aggressive approach right from the beginning and piled up a massive total of 208 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.

The star of the innings was Vishal Bhati, who produced a sensational knock at number three. The explosive batter smashed 86 runs off just 46 deliveries, hitting five boundaries and six towering sixes. His fearless strokeplay completely shifted the momentum in favour of Siliguri and left the Rarh bowlers struggling for answers.

Karan Lal also played an important supporting role with a valuable 39-run contribution, while Pramod Chandila provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 36 off only 16 balls. Mohammed Shami chipped in with a quick cameo as well, remaining unbeaten on 8 from just two deliveries, including a six.

For Shrachi Rarh Tigers, captain Shahbaz Ahmed, Raju Haldar, Sukhmeet Singh and Rahul Prasad picked up one wicket each.

Chasing a daunting target of 209, Rarh Tigers showed glimpses of a fightback but failed to build substantial partnerships. Shubham Dey Senior top-scored with 48 runs, while Rahul Prasad added a fighting 44. However, regular wickets kept derailing their chase.

The biggest turning point of the match came during the 16th over when Mohammed Shami produced a breathtaking spell of fast bowling. The experienced pacer dismissed Shahbaz Ahmed, Rohit Kumar and Dipanjan Mukhopadhyay on three consecutive deliveries to complete a memorable hat-trick — the first in Bengal T20 League history.

Earlier in the innings, Shami had already removed opener Sumanta Gupta, finishing with outstanding figures of 4 wickets for 27 runs in his four-over spell. His fiery bowling completely dismantled the middle order and sealed the contest in Siliguri’s favour.

Apart from Shami, Karan Lal also impressed with the ball by claiming three wickets, while Ishan Porel and Vishal Bhati chipped in with one wicket each.

Eventually, Shrachi Rarh Tigers were restricted to 184 for 9, falling short by 24 runs. With dominant performances in both batting and bowling, Servotech Siliguri Strikers made a powerful statement in their opening game of the season.

The victory not only highlighted the team’s all-round strength but also marked a memorable night for Mohammed Shami, whose historic hat-trick became the biggest talking point of the tournament.

Sports Desk: Sobisco Smashers Malda continued their impressive run in the Bengal Pro T20 League with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Murshidabad Kings at Eden Gardens on Saturday. In a rain-affected contest reduced from 20 overs to 15 overs per side, Malda once again showcased their all-round strength to emerge as one of the strongest contenders in the tournament.

বাংলায় পড়ুন: মুর্শিদাবাদকে উড়িয়ে বেঙ্গল টি-২০ লিগে দুরন্ত জয় মালদার

After winning the toss, Malda captain Mukesh Kumar opted to field first, a decision that proved effective despite a fighting total from Murshidabad Kings. Batting first, Murshidabad posted 134 for 7 in their allotted 15 overs. Deepanshu top-scored with a valuable 47-run knock, while opener Rishav Chowdhury contributed an important 29 at the top of the order. However, regular wickets at crucial intervals prevented them from building a bigger total.

Malda’s bowling attack kept the pressure on throughout the innings. Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal emerged as the standout performer with the ball, picking up three important wickets. Captain Mukesh Kumar, Bikash Singh Senior and Prayash Ray Barman chipped in with one wicket each to restrict Murshidabad to a manageable score.

Chasing 135, Sobisco Smashers Malda came out with a fearless approach right from the beginning. The opening pair of Ritam Porel and Abhimanyu Easwaran dominated the Murshidabad bowlers with aggressive strokeplay and excellent running between the wickets.

Ritam Porel played the match-winning innings, smashing a brilliant 50 off just 29 deliveries. His attacking knock completely shifted the momentum in Malda’s favour and laid the perfect platform for the chase. After receiving the Player of the Match award, Ritam said, “The wicket was very good for batting. We knew that if we started well, the match would come under our control. I just wanted to play my natural game. It feels great to contribute to the team’s victory. Batting alongside Abhimanyu da gave me even more confidence. My goal is to continue performing consistently in the upcoming matches.”

At the other end, Abhimanyu Easwaran anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 48 off 31 balls. His calm and composed approach ensured that Malda never lost control of the chase. The partnership between the two batters completely took the game away from Murshidabad Kings.

For Murshidabad, Aditya Sharma claimed two wickets while Saksham Chowdhury picked up one, but their efforts were not enough to stop Malda’s dominant batting display.

Eventually, Sobisco Smashers Malda reached the target in just 13.4 overs, losing only three wickets in the process. With both bat and ball firing perfectly, Malda stamped their authority on the match and once again proved why they are considered one of the favourites in this season’s Bengal Pro T20 League.

The comprehensive seven-wicket victory will undoubtedly boost the team’s confidence as they continue their campaign with growing momentum.

Kolkata: Indian T20 cricket appears to be entering a new phase after the BCCI made a major leadership change ahead of the upcoming tours of…

Kolkata: Indian T20 cricket appears to be entering a new phase after the BCCI made a major leadership change ahead of the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped from the national T20 side, while Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain.

বাংলায় পডুন: ভারতীয় টি-টোয়েন্টিতে নতুন যুগ, বিদায় সূর্যকুমারের! নেতৃত্বে শ্রেয়স আইয়ার

The squads for the Ireland and England tours, along with a probable squad for the upcoming Asian Games, were announced on Saturday. Since the announcement, discussions have intensified across the cricketing fraternity, with many viewing the decision as the beginning of a new chapter in India’s T20 setup.

Big Decision at BCCI Meeting

The selection meeting took place at the Board of Control for Cricket in India headquarters in Mumbai. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia was also present during the discussions.

The biggest surprise from the squad announcement was the omission of Suryakumar Yadav. Despite being one of India’s most dependable T20 batters in recent years, he failed to find a place in the squad and also lost the captaincy role.

In his place, the selectors handed leadership responsibility to Shreyas Iyer.

Selectors Looking Toward the Future

Shreyas has been an important figure in India’s white-ball setup for several years and already possesses leadership experience from both the IPL and international cricket.

Cricket experts believe the move reflects the selectors’ long-term planning ahead of future ICC tournaments, including the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The management now appears focused on building a fresh leadership group for the coming years.

15-Year-Old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Steals Spotlight

While the captaincy change grabbed headlines, the biggest excitement surrounded teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The 15-year-old prodigy earned his maiden India call-up after impressive performances in the IPL. His fearless batting style and mature temperament had already made him one of the most talked-about young cricketers in the country.

The selectors have shown enormous faith in him by including him across all three announced squads, clearly indicating that he is part of India’s long-term cricketing plans.

Chance to Break Sachin’s Historic Record

Vaibhav’s selection has also sparked discussion about a possible historic milestone.

Currently, Sachin Tendulkar remains one of the youngest players ever to represent India internationally after making his Test debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days against Pakistan.

Vaibhav is currently just 15 years and 71 days old. If he makes his international debut soon, he could potentially surpass Sachin’s long-standing age record.

Clear Signs of Transition

The latest squad announcement highlights a major transition phase in Indian T20 cricket.

With a new captain, fresh faces and bold selection decisions, the team management appears determined to reshape India’s white-ball future with an eye on long-term success.

All attention will now shift to how Shreyas Iyer handles his new leadership role and whether young talents like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can live up to the enormous expectations surrounding them.

Kolkata: India head coach Gautam Gambhir has finally addressed the speculation surrounding the decision to remove Rishabh Pant from the role of Test vice-captain and hand the responsibility to KL Rahul.

Read Bengali: পন্থ নন কেন রাহুল সহ-অধিনায়ক? অবশেষে কারণ জানালেন গম্ভীর

Speaking to reporters ahead of India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan national cricket team, Gambhir made it clear that performance for the country matters more than leadership positions. His comments also hinted strongly that the team management currently sees Sai Sudharsan as a leading option for the crucial No. 3 batting slot.

Pant Removed, Rahul Gets Leadership Role

When India announced the squad for the Afghanistan Test, many were surprised to see Pant no longer serving as vice-captain under skipper Shubman Gill. Instead, the role was handed to the experienced KL Rahul.

The move immediately sparked debate within the cricket fraternity. Several experts and fans questioned whether Pant’s recent performances had influenced the decision.

India’s disappointing Test series against South Africa had already brought criticism toward Pant’s batting approach. Many former cricketers felt his overly aggressive style in key situations hurt the team at important moments.

Gambhir Defends Pant’s Style

However, Gambhir downplayed the controversy and insisted that leadership titles should not define a player’s value.

According to him, the biggest responsibility for any cricketer is to contribute to the team’s success while representing the country. He stressed that players, coaches and support staff are ultimately judged by performances on the field.

Gambhir also clarified that the Indian team does not want Pant to completely change his natural attacking game.

He described aggression as one of Pant’s greatest strengths but added that international cricket also demands game awareness and maturity. Knowing when to attack and when to remain patient is equally important at the highest level.

The India coach said successful cricketers must understand match situations, team requirements and opposition strengths before deciding their approach.

Sai Sudharsan Emerging as Preferred No. 3

Apart from the vice-captaincy discussion, Gambhir’s comments also generated fresh interest around India’s batting order.

The biggest question remains who will bat at No. 3 against Afghanistan.

From Gambhir’s statements, it appears the team management wants to continue backing Sai Sudharsan. The coach believes the young batter has not yet received enough opportunities at the international level to fully showcase his talent.

Gambhir also suggested that judging a player based on only a handful of matches would be unfair.

Sudharsan’s consistent performances in domestic cricket and franchise tournaments over the past season have reportedly impressed both selectors and the coaching staff.

Devdutt Padikkal Also In Contention

Meanwhile, Devdutt Padikkal has also remained in strong form and continues to push his case with regular runs in domestic cricket.

Still, Gambhir’s latest remarks indicate that Sai Sudharsan currently holds a slight advantage in the race for the No. 3 position ahead of the Afghanistan Test.

With India preparing for another important red-ball assignment, interest around the team’s final playing XI has now increased even further.

Kolkata: The ongoing administrative controversy inside the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) intensified further after former president Abhishek Dalmiya publicly responded to allegations made by…

Kolkata: The ongoing administrative controversy inside the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) intensified further after former president Abhishek Dalmiya publicly responded to allegations made by CAB treasurer Sanjay Das.

Read Bengali: সঞ্জয়ের অভিযোগে পাল্টা অভিষেক, ‘গঠনতন্ত্রই জানেন না CAB, কর্তারা’

On Thursday, Sanjay Das alleged that Abhishek Dalmiya had continued as CAB president for nearly ten to eleven months even after his “cooling-off” period had started. Within 24 hours of those remarks, Dalmiya issued a strong rebuttal, claiming that several current CAB office-bearers do not properly understand the association’s constitution.

“I Resigned Immediately”

Abhishek Dalmiya stated that he stepped down from the CAB president’s post immediately after being elected to the IPL Governing Council.

According to him, CAB rules do not allow one individual to hold two major positions simultaneously. He explained that former vice-president Naresh Ojha had chaired the Annual General Meeting during that period.

Dalmiya also pointed out that he did not attend the post-meeting press conference because he was no longer the CAB president at that time.

“From that day till today, I have not publicly commented on CAB matters,” he reportedly said.

Madan Ghosh Controversy Triggered Debate

The latest controversy emerged around Madan Ghosh, who has allegedly continued as Joint Secretary despite crossing the age limit of 70 years.

While defending Ghosh, Sanjay Das referred to Dalmiya’s earlier situation, suggesting that some office-bearers in the past had also remained in positions beyond the expected period. However, Das clarified that Dalmiya had not forcibly held onto the post.

“Two Cases Are Completely Different”

Abhishek Dalmiya rejected the comparison between his case and that of Madan Ghosh.

He explained that the Lodha Committee recommendations clearly distinguish between different forms of disqualification.

According to Dalmiya, issues such as age and citizenship fall under one category, while the “cooling-off” rule applies separately after completing a continuous term in office.

He claimed that once his cooling-off period began, he neither contested any election nor remained part of any CAB committee. Therefore, he argued, there was no violation of rules in his case.

Legal Opinion Also Cited

Dalmiya further said that a legal opinion submitted to the Board in 2020 had already clarified the interpretation of the cooling-off rules.

According to him, the document clearly explains when the cooling-off provision applies and when it does not.

He suggested that those making allegations against him should first study the relevant documents properly before commenting publicly.

Fresh Debate Inside CAB

The exchange of statements has once again triggered debate inside CAB regarding administrative transparency, constitutional interpretation and eligibility rules for office-bearers.

Cricket observers believe the issue could further intensify in the coming days, especially with questions continuing over governance and compliance with Lodha Committee reforms within Bengal cricket administration.
